At Instructure, we believe in the power of people to grow and succeed throughout their lives. Our goal is to amplify that power by creating intuitive products that simplify learning and personal development, facilitate meaningful relationships, and inspire people to go further in their education and careers.
We do this by giving smart, creative, passionate people opportunities to create awesome. And that's where you come in:
Our design team is a highly collaborative group of talented designers; they play a key role in defining and shaping the experience of every product across Instructure’s portfolio. They go through great lengths to engage with our customers, as gaining empathy proves to be one of the greatest design tools in the kit. Working closely with product managers and developers, our designers craft purposeful, usable and accessible products and features that don’t just meet the immediate needs of today, but those to come as the world’s education system continues to move online.
We’re looking for a Product Design Intern to join our collaborative and motivated team. You have a growing passion for combining seamless interaction with beautiful visual design. You’re eager to learn and contribute to real product work that impacts educators, students, and millions of users worldwide.
Product and engineering aren’t separated by arbitrary ownership boundaries. We all collaborate together, even when we’re only connected via Slack and Google.
Please note that we can only consider candidates with an active student status at a Hungarian higher education institution. The contract is via a school cooperatives company.
Work arrangement
This is a part-time internship requiring 14 hours per week, with a mix of in-office and remote work. Attendance will skew heavily toward in-person office presence. The mentor and intern will set specific arrangements based on mutual availability, in line with these expectations. Our office is located near Kelenföld pályaudvar, Budapest.
What you’ll be doing
Work alongside product managers and developers to understand what users need and help come up with design ideas
Design screens, wireframes, and interactive prototypes for real product features with support from your mentor
Take part in user research — help prepare and run usability tests and interviews, and make sense of what you learn
Use and help improve our design system so that our products look and feel consistent
Learn about and apply accessibility (A11y) practices to make sure our products work well for everyone
Experiment with AI tools to speed up your design workflow
Help track how well a feature performs after it ships, learning how design decisions impact real users
Share your work with the team and explain the thinking behind your designs
What we look for
Active student status, ideally in your final years of a design, HCI, or related programme
Availability to work 14 hours per week
Some examples of your work (portfolio or case studies) that show your approach to design - academic or personal projects are totally fine, we’re more interested in your thinking than polished visuals.
Foundational knowledge of UX/UI principles and familiarity with design tools such as Figma
Interest in accessibility and inclusive design
Curiosity and excitement about AI tools in design — you don’t need to be an expert, but we’d love to see that you’re eager to explore how AI can help your design process
Experience or projects outside of class is a plus
Ability and desire to work in an inclusive, team-oriented environment, but can be self-directed as needs dictate
Comfortable communicating in English — our day-to-day work language is English, so you should be able to express your ideas clearly in both writing and conversation
