We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of FP&A to lead our finance business partner team. In this pivotal role, you’ll shape financial strategy, drive business performance, and ensure Instructure’s long-term financial health as we enter our next phase of growth under private equity sponsorship. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, you will partner closely with the executive team and department heads, delivering data-driven insights and guidance to support critical decisions.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SaaS business models and metrics, expense and cash forecasting, exceptional financial modeling skills, and a proven record of building and leading high-performing teams.
What you’ll do:
- Financial Planning & Forecasting:
- Lead expense planning (P&L and cash impact), including the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
- Partner with the Director of FP&A, Revenue to forecast and manage EBITDA performance.
- Build and maintain dynamic financial models for forecasting, long-range planning, and scenario analysis.
- Translate strategic initiatives into clear financial plans and budgets.
- Deliver variance analysis with actionable insights to improve results.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and senior executives, guiding decisions with data-driven insights.
- Collaborate with department heads (Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering) to align financial and operational strategies.
- Prepare board and executive presentations that clearly communicate performance, strategy, and risks/opportunities.
- Support M&A opportunities with financial due diligence and modeling.
- Partner with G&A leaders to refine practices, improve forecast inputs, and strengthen expense controls.
- Establish scalable, consistent forecasting processes to improve accuracy and reduce variances.
- Partner with Accounting during month-end close to ensure results align with forecasts and maintain accuracy.
- Lead and develop a high-performing, geographically dispersed FP&A team.
- Foster a culture of shared purpose, continuous improvement, and analytical rigor.
- Mentor team members to grow as strategic business partners and advance their careers.

What you will need to know/have:
- 8–10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3–5+ years leading an FP&A team.
- Proven success in a private equity–backed SaaS company, including building pro forma financial statements for acquisitions, restructuring, and long-range planning.
- Proficiency with financial planning tools (Adaptive Planning, Anaplan) and ERP systems (NetSuite).
- Strong forecasting and reporting skills for key cash flow metrics, including Cash EBITDA and Free Cash Flow.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to build dynamic financial models.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, project management, and people management abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- Collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships across the organization.
It would be a bonus if you also had:
- MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced credential.
- M&A due diligence and post-acquisition integration experience
